Rabat – The Professional Fighters League held its first event in Morocco on Saturday, staging PFL Africa: Casablanca at the Mohammed V Sports Complex.
The card featured tournament semifinal bouts and showcase fights with athletes from across the continent.
Senegalese heavyweight Abdoulaye Kane secured a first-round TKO over Moroccan Badr Medkouri in the main event.
Kane established early control on the feet with kicks before taking Medkouri down and finishing the fight.
“Winning the main event of PFL Africa in Casablanca is a moment I will never forget,” Kane said.
“This victory means so much more to me than just having my hand raised inside the cage. Morocco is my home, the country that welcomed me, supported me, and gave me the strength to keep chasing my dreams,” he added.
In the featherweight co-main event, Algeria’s Yanis Ghemmouri earned a unanimous decision victory over Morocco’s Taha Bendaoud.
After an opening exchange of kicks and takedown attempts, Ghemmouri took control of the bout through effective counter-striking and work on the ground .
Moroccan Prospects Impress on Preliminary Card
In bantamweight action, Morocco’s Reda Abdellaoui secured a decisive victory over Tunisian Salim Mhamdi in the prelims.
Abdellaoui controlled the grappling exchanges before forcing Mhamdi to tap out via submission.
In an all-Moroccan lightweight matchup, Abderrahman Errachidy earned a hard-fought decision victory over Oussama El Idrissi.
Errachidy dictated the pace across three rounds, through sharper striking combinations and effective positional control to earn the win on the judges’ scorecards.
Nigeria’s Jane Osigwe secured a decision victory over Morocco’s Sanaa Mandar in a 132-pound catchweight bout.
Osigwe maintained distance with effective striking combinations and defended Mandar’s takedown attempts, doing enough to sweep the judges’ scorecards.
PFL Africa: Casablanca concluded with the announcement of the upcoming tournament finals in the welterweight, lightweight, and bantamweight divisions.
The event marked the promotion’s first show in North Africa as it continues its inaugural continental season.
