Mogadishu (HOL) — Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) announced Wednesday that it had arrested a man suspected of planning an attack in Mogadishu after he allegedly attempted to flee security forces and discarded a hand grenade.
The suspect, identified as Hassan Nur Muse, also known as Makane or Ali Sabti, was arrested during a joint operation by NISA and Somali police in the KPP neighborhood of Hodan district, according to an agency statement.
NISA said security personnel had been monitoring the suspect’s movements before launching the operation.
“The man attempted to flee and discarded a hand grenade he was carrying; however, security forces were ultimately able to take him into custody unharmed,” the agency said.
The intelligence agency did not disclose the intended target of the alleged attack or whether the suspect had direct links to al-Shabab or ISIS.
NISA said the arrest was part of ongoing security operations aimed at preventing attacks by militant groups and strengthening security in the capital.
The agency also urged Mogadishu residents to cooperate with security forces by reporting suspicious activities and sharing information that could help prevent attacks.
