The Border Management Authority (BMA) has temporarily suspended operations at the Kopfontein port of entry, which connects South Africa and Botswana, following a spillage that has affected infrastructure in the area.
The BMA says the suspension is necessary to ensure the safety of travellers and officials while challenges are being addressed.
BMA spokesperson, Mmemme Mogotsi, has advised travellers intending to cross between the two countries to use the Skilpadshek and Ramatlabama ports of entry until further notice.
Mogotsi says, “The spillage has had an impact on the operational area of the port, making it necessary to temporarily suspend operations to address the situation and ensure the safety of travellers and officials. In consultation with the Botswana authorities, the BMA has taken a decision to suspend operations at the Kopfontein port until the challenges have been resolved.”
“Travellers intending to cross between South Africa and Botswana are advised to make use of alternative ports of entry, namely Skilpadshеk and Ramatlabama, until further notice,” adds Mogotsi.
