More than a dozen electric vehicle owners spent Saturday morning at The Market at Pepper Place in Birmingham, handing out candy and talking with visitors about driving electric vehicles every day.
The free showcase, sponsored by Drive Electric Alabama, featured a variety of makes and models, including full-size electric pickup trucks from Chevrolet and Rivian, SUVs from Kia, Lucid and Volvo, and sedans from Tesla, BMW and Audi.
Some owners dressed in Halloween costumes for the event, which doubled as a “frunk-or-treat.” The name highlighted the front storage compartments, or frunks, that some EVs have under the hood because they lack bulky internal combustion engines.
“We find great value in being able to share the collective experience of Alabama EV owners with no pressure or sales pitch,” Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition President Michael Staley said. “This event is a perfect place for you to interact with EV owners who are willing to share about their EV ownership experience and answer any questions.”
Staley helped coordinate the showcase and drives an electric Chevrolet pickup truck.

Casey Foster, the coalition’s executive director, also displayed his full-size, propane-powered pickup truck.
Saturday’s showcase followed similar Drive Electric Alabama events in Huntsville, Cullman, Mobile, Irvington, Millbrook and Rickwood Caverns State Park. The initiative has sponsored more than a dozen EV showcases across the state this year.
Organizers originally scheduled the Pepper Place event for October 10 but postponed it until Saturday because of the threat of inclement weather from Hurricane Isaias.
