WAIT-AND-SEE. The Philippine Stock Exchange index rose Wednesday (Nov. 4, 2026) as investors searched for cheaper stocks after the main index’s recent drop. The Philippine peso, meanwhile, finished sideways against the greenback. (PNA graphics)
MANILA – Bargain-hunting lifted the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) on Wednesday, but the Philippine peso ended sideways against the US dollar.
The local bourse’s main index rose 1.26 percent to 5,694.92 points, and the broader All Shares by 0.80 percent to 3,185.15 points.
Most sectoral gauges also went up, led by Financials, which rose 3.82 percent, followed by Services, 1.79 percent; Mining and Oil, 0.91 percent; and Industrial, 0.33 percent.
On the other hand, Holding Firms fell 1.07 percent and Property by 0.25 percent.
Volume was thin at 663.85 million shares, amounting to PHP6.95 billion.
Decliners led advancers, 97 to 94, while 61 shares were unchanged.
“The local bourse advanced on Wednesday, staging a technical rebound as bargain-hunting emerged across select index heavyweights following recent market weakness. Investor sentiment was supported by positioning ahead of tomorrow’s (Thursday’s) inflation print, as market participants await further indications of the country’s inflation trajectory and its potential implications for the BSP’s (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) monetary policy direction,” Luis Limlingan, Regina Capital Development Corp. head of sales, said in a market report.
Meanwhile, the local currency ended the day’s trade at 63.53, slightly changed from its 63.47 close in the previous session.
It started at 63.57 and traded between 63.6 and 63.42, averaging 63.48.
Volume rose to USD1.32 billion, compared to the previous day’s USD1.04 billion. (Joann Santiago-Villanueva/PNA)
