ADEN – Yemen is witnessing a significant escalation in military confrontations across multiple frontlines as fighting intensifies between government forces and the Houthi movement, while humanitarian and security concerns continue to mount amid growing displacement and deteriorating health conditions.
Government military spokesperson Majed Al-Nazili announced that Yemeni forces had carried out 875 operations targeting Houthi positions and gatherings over the past 24 hours. According to Al-Nazili, the operations resulted in 130 casualties, including those killed and wounded, and the destruction of 50 military vehicles belonging to the group.
On the ground, government forces reported repelling Houthi attacks in Jabal Sabr and the Al-Masrakh district of Taiz province, as well as along combat axes in Lahj and Marib governorates. Military sources also said a Houthi drone was shot down during ongoing operations.
Meanwhile, military operations in southern and eastern Al-Jawf governorate entered their third consecutive day. Government forces stated they had secured positions in the Al-Duhaidha area, describing the move as part of efforts to consolidate control over strategic terrain in the province.
For their part, Houthi officials claimed responsibility for attacks targeting oil and military sites in Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Houthi-affiliated media outlets also reported that nine airstrikes struck telecommunications networks in the Kitaf and Al-Buqa districts of Saada governorate.
In a related development affecting regional maritime security, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Houthis have assumed an increasingly active role in regulating vessel movements in the Red Sea. According to the report, the group has implemented a system requiring ships to submit electronic transit information, reflecting its growing influence over one of the world’s most strategically important shipping lanes.
