New York, Oct. 31 (SANA) The UN Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory has issued a stark warning regarding the heightened threat of ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip, driven by ongoing military operations and severe restrictions on civilian movement.
In an official statement published on Friday by the UN News Centre, the office highlighted that Israeli occupation forces continue to force Palestinians into increasingly shrinking zones across the enclave, alongside the destruction of remaining civilian infrastructure and deliberate targeting of displacement shelters.
Expanded military operations in recent weeks have triggered further displacement from Gaza City and central districts.
Documented Attacks on Displacement Camps
The office documented specific strikes on displacement camps in the Shuja’iyya neighborhood, as well as the destruction of residential buildings. A drone strike targeting tents housed by displaced families ignited a fire that left hundreds of families without shelter.
Ajith Sunghay, Head of the UN Human Rights Office for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, stated that Gaza’s population is enduring an ongoing “nightmare of displacement.” He noted that the vast majority of displaced residents are unable to return to their original homes while remaining exposed to repeated displacement, bombardment, and worsening living conditions.
Call to End Forced Transfers
The UN office called on Israel, as the occupying power, to immediately cease the forced transfer of the Palestinian population and facilitate their safe, dignified return to their homes. It further warned that the humanitarian crisis will continue to spiral as long as strict limitations remain on importing essential shelter materials and humanitarian aid.
The Gaza Strip has been facing a catastrophic humanitarian crisis since October 2023, with broad military actions and repeated evacuation orders forcing the majority of its population to relocate multiple times.
