Damascus, Oct. 9 (SANA) Syria’s Drug Enforcement Department, in coordination with the General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs, thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of drugs from Lebanon through the Jdaidet Yabous border crossing, the department said Thursday.
The department said in a post on Telegram that its personnel seized 395,000 Captagon pills that had been concealed using sophisticated concealment methods before reaching their intended destination in Damascus countryside. Those involved in the smuggling operation were also arrested and will be referred to the competent judiciary.
In recent weeks, the Drug Enforcement Department has foiled several attempts to smuggle drugs from Lebanon. On Sept. 30, authorities seized 225,000 Captagon pills, while on Oct. 6 they seized another 210,000 Captagon pills and 62 kilograms of hashish. The operations resulted in the arrest of several suspects, who were referred to the competent judiciary.
