Amazon has confirmed another round of layoffs affecting fewer than 1,000 corporate employees globally, including workers in India, the US and the UK.
The cuts mainly affected its Stores business, which manages the company’s core e-commerce operations, and came as its major festive sales began.
Multiple Retail Teams Affected
Employees in customer service, selling partner services, marketplace support and engineering roles were reportedly impacted.
Workers received layoff emails and discussed severance, notice periods and internal job opportunities on Amazon’s Slack channels. The company said it had “adjusted parts” of its Stores business to better support its priorities.
The latest cuts follow Amazon’s elimination of around 30,000 corporate jobs between late 2025 and January 2026.
Founder Jeff Bezos said the company had overhired during the pandemic, making workforce reductions necessary.
Amazon is simultaneously planning around $220 billion in spending on data centres, chips and other AI infrastructure and has reportedly approached some former employees for roles in AWS and AI businesses.
Despite the layoffs, Amazon continues expanding in India. Its new 1.1-million-square-foot Bengaluru campus, opened in March, is expected to support more than 7,000 employees across e-commerce, payments, technology and seller services.
Great Indian Festival Offers
Amazon’s Great Indian Festival began for Prime members on October 7 and opened to all customers on October 8, offering discounts of up to 65% on appliances.
SBI cardholders can get 10% instant discounts, while Amazon Pay ICICI card users receive up to 5% cashback, with additional cashback offers on select devices and Amazon Pay Later EMI transactions.
