Spain’s pay-TV market continued to expand in the second quarter of 2026, although the latest figures exclude major streaming platforms.
The number of pay-TV subscriptions in Spain reached 12.6 million in Q2, up 9.4 per cent (to 12.6 million) year on year, according to figures published by the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC).
The figures cover the country’s telecommunications and audiovisual markets. However, they exclude subscriptions to major streaming services such as Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney+ and SkyShowtime, meaning they do not provide a complete picture of Spain’s wider subscription video market.
The growth in pay-TV subscriptions comes amid continued competition between telecommunications operators and streaming providers for viewers and household spending. Traditional pay-TV packages increasingly combine television with fixed broadband and mobile services, while streaming platforms continue to compete through exclusive content, original productions and live sports.
The CNMC reported a total of 12.5 million quadruple-play and quintuple-play bundles during the quarter. Packages combining fixed broadband, mobile telephony and mobile broadband accounted for 2.7 million subscriptions at the end of the period, an increase of 204,000 compared with June 2025.
The wider telecommunications market remained broadly stable in revenue terms. Retail revenues totalled €5.64 billion in the second quarter, virtually unchanged from a year earlier.
Movistar, Vodafone, MasOrange and Digi accounted for 82.8 per cent of retail telecommunications revenues. Digi recorded the strongest year-on-year growth among the four operators, with revenue increasing by 14.4 per cent, while Vodafone grew by 1.1 per cent. MasOrange remained broadly stable and Movistar’s retail revenue declined by 2.4 per cent.
The figures also underline the continuing expansion of high-speed connectivity in Spain. FTTH connections reached 81.5 million installed accesses, compared with 80.6 million a year earlier. By June, 91.4 per cent of fixed broadband lines were fibre-based.
