Less than one hour after polls closed in Georgia, Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff is projected to hold the key Georgia Senate seat.
His victory was not unexpected – Ossoff had a comfortable lead in the polls over his Republican challenger, Rep Mike Collins, heading into election day.
But Republicans had still hoped this would be a more competitive race. It’s a state that has voted reliably red for decades. President Donald Trump won it in 2024, after Joe Biden eked out a narrow win there in 2020.
The BBC's Carl Nasman reports from inside a Democratic watch party in Georgia as supporters celebrate.
