President Donald Trump is set to appear at a midterm rally Thursday in South Carolina, where Fox News ostensibly visited to interview MAGA devotees in the hopes of hyping up viewers at home.
“Why are you here this morning?” Fox News reporter Lucas Tomlinson asked an attendee during a live broadcast.
“Well, in the late ’70s, I was a little too young to get involved and go to South America for the Jonestown massacre,” the man responded. “But this is as close as I’ll ever get, so that’s why I’m here.”
“Wait, the Jonestown massacre?” Tomlinson asked, clearly confused.
“That’s right,” he replied. “There’s nothing like seeing a cult right up front, man.”
That’s arguably the most positive—and accurate—statement to come out of a Trump rally.
