Those turning to Fox News on Wednesday to see how the right-wing griftosphere was handling the absolute shellacking Republicans took during Tuesday’s midterm elections might’ve been left wondering if the Blue Tsunami was all a dream. Because if you were watching Fox & Friends on Wednesday morning, Fox News was already back to its regularly scheduled programming while election results continued to trickle in.
Yes, by 8:57 a.m. ET on Wednesday morning, Fox News decided its audience needed a little pick-me-up in the form of WNBA veteran and outspoken critic of transgender athletes Sophie Cunningham. Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt teed up the all-important and entirely novel segment with Fox News contributor Brett Cooper. All was right in the world, if only for a moment.
LMAO — fresh off Republicans getting annihilated last night, Fox News is back to talking about Sophie Cunningham all the time. She’s been praised across four different shows today for her among other things her number of Instagram followers, which is obviously world historical news

It turns out, Fox News ran back this playbook several times throughout the day, according to the prolific right-wing media observer Aaron Rupar, who said Cunningham has been praised on four different Fox News shows throughout the day. It’s the television equivalent of a young child putting fingers in their ears and yelling “La la la la, I can’t hear you!” over and over again.
To be fair to Fox News, there was a slight electoral angle to the Cunningham story, which they finessed into discussing later in the day but not during the morning segment on Fox & Friends. Both Nebraska and Arizona passed ballot measures that preclude transgender women from participating in school-sponsored women’s sports, and Cunningham, who has advocated for these initiatives, was framed as someone who moved the needle on the issue.
Still, it’s hard to imagine Fox News was planning to run four separate Cunningham or Cunningham-adjacent segments the day after one of the most consequential midterm elections in recent memory. And to the droves of liberal news viewers who were dropping in throughout the day to see how the other side was handling things, the Cunningham segments made it clear that the answer was: not well.
