GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – It was a busy week across the Upstate, beginning with Primary Election Day and ending with some notable arrests and acts of heroism. Here are some of the major stories you may have missed from this week.
South Carolina Republicans will head back to the polls in two weeks for a runoff election in the race for Governor. Lt. Governor Pamela Evette and Attorney General Alan Wilson are projected to have the most votes in the race for the GOP nomination, but neither has received more than half of the votes which is required for a winner to be declared.
Investigators said they seized 1,474 grams of meth, about 90 grams of fentanyl and six guns as part of “Operation Message Sent.” The operation involved the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the Chester County Sheriff’s Office, the FBI and the DEA.
According to an incident report, Greer Police were working a political event hosted by Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette’s campaign on Monday evening when they saw a man run up to a person holding a megaphone and rip it out of their hands.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office is praising two deputies after a little girl stopped breathing after falling into a swimming pool. Body camera video captured the critical moments Deputy Jordan Stevenson and Deputy Connor O’Shields acted to revive the child.
The Wellford Police Department said a driver is in custody after a child riding an electric bike was injured in a hit-and-run while riding a bike on Thursday. Two men then drove away before stopping at a nearby cul-de-sac and fleeing on foot.
Three suspects, including a former Greenville Police Officer, accused of being involved in an alleged child sex ring were denied bond during a Friday morning hearing. The trio was among six suspects who were arrested on May 19, according to Greenville County deputies.
A Greenville County man accused of killing his 3-month-old son was sentenced on Friday, according to online jail records. The child died days after he was brought to the hospital unresponsive in September 2021.
