Deutsche Bank has been designated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) as a Primary Liquidity Provider (PLP) for the offshore renminbi (RMB) market in Hong Kong for a two-year term, commencing from 27 October 2026.
As one of 12 banks designated under the HKMA’s PLP Scheme, Deutsche Bank will continue to support liquidity in Hong Kong’s offshore RMB market. The designation forms part of the HKMA’s efforts to enhance liquidity support for the offshore RMB market and further strengthen Hong Kong’s position as the leading offshore RMB hub.
As part of the latest enhancements to the scheme, the HKMA will increase the total RMB repo facility available to PLPs from RMB20 billion to RMB22 billion, providing additional liquidity support to the market.
Joe Lai, Deutsche Bank’s Chief Executive Officer for Hong Kong SAR and Head of Investment Banking & Capital Markets, APAC, said:
“We are honoured to be appointed as a Primary Liquidity Provider for Hong Kong’s offshore renminbi market. This designation underscores Deutsche Bank’s commitment to supporting RMB internationalisation and facilitating the growing flow of trade, investment and capital between China and global markets.”
