Dorset Police officers have also been at Park Homer Drive, in Wimborne, in connection with the incident
People were evacuated from their homes after police discovered a suspected bomb in a car parked in a residential street.
Dorset Police officers made the discovery in a vehicle in Sherwood Avenue, in Poole, at about 22:20 GMT on Friday.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was called to the scene and made the suspected explosive device safe, the force said.
A cordon was placed around the scene and properties in the immediate vicinity were evacuated. No arrests have been made and Dorset Police said it is continuing to investigate the incident.
Officers initially visited a property on the road following reports that a nearby parked car contained "offensive weapons and other suspicious items".
There has also been a police presence in Park Homer Drive, in Wimborne, which police say is connected to the incident in Poole.
One resident told the BBC they had seen armed officers and sniffer dogs in the area.
