Jerusalem – The Israeli army announced the discovery of a military operations room and dozens of advanced weapons and equipment at a site adjacent to a UN facility in southern Lebanon. An Israeli military statement explained that its field forces, during search and raid operations, uncovered a command compound used to manage field operations and store weapons. The statement added that the site is located very close to a UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) monitoring center.
Military reports indicate that the seized equipment and weapons included rocket launchers, wireless communication devices, night-vision equipment, and various types of ammunition. The statement confirmed that Israeli forces confiscated the weapons and neutralized the operations room. Simultaneously, the geographical search for additional tunnels and hideouts in border villages and towns adjacent to the Blue Line was expanded.
These developments come amid ongoing accusations from Tel Aviv that Israel is exploiting its proximity to international organizations to establish military infrastructure. Observers believe that including UN sites in military statements exacerbates political and diplomatic tensions between Israel and the United Nations. This also occurs against a backdrop of repeated international calls for adherence to UN resolutions and ensuring the safety of international forces operating in the region.
