Westmeath have added an eight-time All-Ireland winner to their backroom team, with Eddie Brennan joining Kevin O’Brien’s setup for the 2027 season.
The former Kilkenny forward takes on a new challenge after working alongside Derek Lyng with his native county this year. His arrival brings considerable experience to a Westmeath side hoping to work their way back into the Leinster Championship.
As reported by Midlands 103, Eddie Brennan is among the additions confirmed by O’Brien ahead of his second season in charge.
Offaly’s Adrian Clancy comes on board as a coach, while Rory Fleming, previously involved with the Kildare senior hurlers, and Kevin O’Brien, from the Tullamore senior football management team, join as strength and conditioning coaches.
Brennan is the standout name, and his previous success with Laois should give Westmeath supporters particular encouragement.
In 2019, he guided Laois to the Joe McDonagh Cup before overseeing one of the most memorable championship upsets of recent years.

Just a week after their triumph at Croke Park, Laois beat Dublin by 1-22 to 0-23 at O’Moore Park to reach the All-Ireland quarter-finals.
Westmeath have ground to make up following a difficult 2026 campaign.
They finished third in Division 2 of the National League, behind Laois and Kerry, before managing just one victory in the Joe McDonagh Cup.
An opening win away to London was followed by defeats to Carlow, Laois, Antrim and Down, leaving them fifth in the table, ahead of relegated London.
