Gov. Ron DeSantis continues to dodge questions about whether he’s running for President again in two years, and now suggests that he will spend some time out of politics once his term ends at the end of the year.
“I’m in my mid-40s, who knows what life will hold in the future?” he told Dave Rubin.
“I have a lot of people that want me to do a lot of different things, but I think I owe it to the voters to just run through the tape here. We’ll come out on the other side.”
DeSantis added that he is “looking forward” to experiencing “a little bit” of civilian life again.
“I mean, it’s been an honor for sure, and we’ve gotten a lot done,” he added of his tenure of Governor, but said he may just “do things in the private sector, whatever, for a little bit.”
But DeSantis also promised that Rubin would be “probably in line to be one of the people that we come on and talk about it with” if he does make another political move.
Polling of what is still an embryonic race for the Republican nomination in 2028 shows that voters aren’t clamoring for DeSantis. His best poll of late showed him at 12% nationally.
State-level polling doesn’t suggest the same enthusiasm DeSantis is seeing in some national polls. As we’ve written previously, polling in pivotal New Hampshire finds the Governor with 5% support.
With President Donald Trump talking up a ticket including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the only lane might be for DeSantis to run against the Trump administration, in a move that might remind some of his apostasy in 2024. Perhaps taking a cycle off, like Richard Nixon did in 1964, will refresh the voters’ palates for his brand of conservative politics.

Mid 40’s…yeah right. Dude is pushing 50 but he’s still 3 decades younger than our current octogenarian potus. Lobbyist/consultant covers up alot of sins but my guess is that when he finds out that nobody likes him and that he has to do actual work in the private sector he’ll be itching to run for dog catcher. Plus Casey doesn’t want him in the house & who could blame her.
