BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Republican U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville has raised nearly $11 million more than Democrat Doug Jones in the race for Alabama governor, and the two campaigns are funded by very different mixes of donors, according to a 6 On Your Side Investigates analysis of campaign finance records.
Ahead of the general election, WBRC reviewed the contributions and spending each campaign reported to the Alabama Secretary of State through Oct. 27, 2026.
Tuberville’s campaign reported its first contributions on May 27, 2025, about six months before Jones entered the race on Nov. 24, 2025. Since then, Tuberville has raised about $17.7 million. Jones has raised more than $6.7 million.

For Jones, donors who gave $5,000 or more account for about 19% of his money, and about 40% came in gifts of $100 or less. No Jones donor has given $100,000 or more.
Individual donors gave Tuberville about $8.8 million, roughly half of his money. Businesses gave $8 million and PACs $704,000, together about 49%. For Jones, individuals gave about 98% of the money. Businesses and PACs gave about 2%. These totals include in-kind contributions, which are goods or services and not cash.
Most of Tuberville’s PAC support came in the final week. In reports filed Oct. 26 and 27, four PACs gave $350,000 in cash: Tiger Paw PAC, $150,000, the Alabama Builders PAC, $100,000, the Alabama Medical PAC, $75,000, and Nucor’s PAC, $25,000. ProgressPAC, the Business Council of Alabama’s political arm, also paid $229,883 for a mailer and advertising supporting Tuberville, which the campaign reported as in-kind contributions.
Jones’ reports filed Oct. 25 through 27 include two PAC gifts totaling $1,100.
Where the money comes from
About 80% of each candidate’s itemized money comes from Alabama. Jones has received $3.88 million from in-state donors and $985,746 from out of state. Tuberville has received $13.9 million from in-state donors and $3.3 million from out of state.

How the campaigns are spending
For both campaigns, more than half of spending went to one media vendor.
Tuberville’s campaign has spent more than $15.1 million since May 2025, according to its state filings. About $8.6 million of that went to Go Big Media LLC of Washington, D.C., which received a large share of the campaign’s advertising spending.
Jones has spent more than $6.2 million, and 52% of it went to Lever Communications, or 54% when payments to its affiliate, Joe Trippi and Associates, are included. A Colorado state disclosure lists the company as “Lever Communications Inc. dba Joe Trippi and Associates.” Trippi is a Democratic strategist.
Most of both campaigns’ spending came in September and October. Those two months account for about $10 million of Tuberville’s spending and about $4 million of Jones’ spending, or 64% of each campaign’s total. Tuberville’s campaign spent about $362,000 a month from January through August 2026, then $4.1 million in September and $5.9 million in October.
