Jim McCollum's family said they were heartbroken by his death
An 84-year-old man who died in a crash that also killed a 20-year-old man has been described as a "gentle and loving" grandfather.
Jim McCollum was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash which happened on the B708 Lower Bathville road in Bathgate at about 12:15 on Sunday, during Storm Boelo.
It involved McCollum's blue Peugeot 208, a white BMW 116D and a blue Citroen Saxo.
The BMW driver was also pronounced dead at the scene – but has not yet been named by police – while his 19-year-old passenger was taken to hospital for treatment.
A 20-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman in the Citroen were assessed by paramedics at the scene.
In a statement, McCollum's family said: "Jim was a gentle and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by his heartbroken family.
"The family wishes to thank the emergency services who attended the scene of the crash."
Sgt Dave Waddell, of the road policing unit, said: "We are continuing to appeal for information and would ask anyone who witnessed the crash or may have dashcam footage which could assist, to contact us, external as soon as possible."
